Your Journey, Your Voice
Hidden inside you is a voice that is uniquely your own. It may not be loud but it will be authentic. Once you have uncovered and strengthened that voice, it can serve you for life. What can you do to find and develop the full range and colour of your voice? How can your voice be best heard? And what might it serve?

“Listen, are you breathing just a little and calling it a life?”    Mary Oliver

Our starting point for this practically based 5-week course will be the stories of your life that have helped or hindered your speaking voice and other real-life stories close to your heart. Shaping them to share with others is the best way we have found to develop both your authentic voice and the courage to stand in your words. To these, we will add a variety of advanced voice exercises and poetry, as well as a wide range of other inspirational material. There will be time for individual story and voice coaching as well as a weekly singing class which we have found to be invaluable in strengthening your voice. On Thursday evenings you will have the opportunity to share your poetry and stories with a live audience and discover just where the journey with your voice is taking you.

This is a course primarily for storytellers but it will also be invaluable for poets, lovers of language or people involved in public speaking.

It is possible to book accommodation and lunches at Emerson College. We will email you a booking form with your acceptance letter. The costs are not included in our tuition fee and are for the duration of the course: Accommodation £330, Lunches Monday to Friday £ 142.50 (to be confirmed).
